Shelter Advocate, Part-Time

We're hiring for a Shelter Advocate position!  

 

Details:

Part-Time up to 24 hours per week. Shifts needed: Saturday & Sunday 12AM - 12PM. 

$16-18/hr, high school diploma or GED required. Ongoing degree work preferred.

Must be able to pass a national background check (non-negotiable).

Must have basic knowledge of the effects of domestic violence and demonstrate skill in crisis intervention.

Must have a current driver's license and own transportation. 

 

Position Summary:

Provide crisis intervention services via the crisis line to those in need. Provide face-to-face crisis intervention to those people requesting sheltering services. Complete initial assessments for admission status of those seeking sheltering. Provide continual advocacy, support, and guidance to adult and juvenile residents of the shelter facility.

 

Essential Functions:

• Being in a stationary position for extended periods, which includes driving long distances to meet with clients.

• Occasionally lifting donations or client items weighing up to 25 pounds.

• Being accessible for on-call rotation, which includes overnight and weekend shifts.

• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine and computer printer.

• The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand, specifically in crisis situations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

• Able to manage and prioritize one's own workload with minimal supervision.
